Dilemma

James M Calloway

Dr. James M. Calloway was affiliated with the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) for forty-seven years. Dr. Calloway was a Teacher, Dean-Counselor, Head Counselor, Assistant Principal and Principal. He has authored this book to share some of the various experiences, strategies, and techniques he used as an Educator in San Francisco.

Dr. Calloway attended Bret Harte Elementary School, Portola Junior High, and Galileo High School. He attended San Francisco State University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts - Major: Sociology, Standard Teaching Credential and Master of Arts - Major: Education Administration and Credential.

What led him to the teaching profession were two teachers he had in school: Mrs. Beaumont, his 5th and 6th grade teacher at Bret Harte Elementary School, and Mr. Magid, his homeroom, and Civics teacher in the 12th grade at Galileo High School. They both told him that he could help the race when he got older if he prepared himself. His admiration for those two teachers made him decide he wanted to be a teacher like them.

Dr. Calloway was hired by the San Francisco Unified School District as a Paraprofessional in 1971 and as a teacher in 1972 at Ben Franklin Junior High School. When he was hired by SFUSD, Mrs. Beaumont and Mr. Magid were still working for the SFUSD. He had the opportunity to inform them both that he had become a teacher working for the SFUSD. They were both proud of his accomplishments. Fifty years later, he has written this book.
