This book answers the question: Where are all of the positive Black men? THEY ARE HERE! Their voices live within these pages as told across four generations. Positive, hard-working, family focused, children-loving men who have shared the values they were raised with by parents, grandparents, and some great-grand parents in cohesive and supportive communities.
The intention of this book is to aims to counter the pervasive negative stereotypes of Black men often portrayed in the media. These pictures of Black men is one-sided - and not by accident. However, and fortunately, Dr. Murray was able to meet and interview dozens of serious-minded, outstanding Black male citizens from age 22 to 102 who shared their life's experiences and how the family values they were taught shaped their worldviews. Another intention of this book is to remind the reader that they too know such positive, wonderful, loving men-in their family, their childhood neighbors, members of their place of worship, maybe at their place of employment-that are often overlooked or forgotten because they aren't trying to draw attention to themselves. These men are our unsung heroes and we need to recognize and shower them with appreciation and love.
