Three trials involving Brother Thomas, a Benedictine Monk of St Cuthberts Monastery in the year 1605. In the first trial, King James charge's Brother Thomas with investigating rumours of witchcraft in the village of Croftspar and rooting out any practitioners of the dark arts.

In the second trial as Brother Thomas makes his way through the dense forest, he stumbled upon a sight that would forever change his peaceful existence, the lifeless body of a young man.

In the third trial Ann Mcgregor, one of the Queen's ladies in waiting, has been found dead in her bed. The cause of her death as yet unknown, and King James require Brother Thomas to investigate the matter.
