Rain-starved summers, merciless winters, demanding days working the fields, and the risks of savage wildlife present untold challenges for young pioneer couple Ella and Henry. As winter approaches with the couple needing a source of income, Henry hires on as a lumberjack in a distant logging forest leaving Ella to maintain the farm. Lumber camp work is wrought with hazards--although hardly as perilous as Ella's lonely life on the farm.
