In a world where humans live exclusively in mountain towns, the lowlands are dominated by octopus-like creatures known as Poctu. Poctu expert, Fritz Kolber, finds himself in dubious circumstances with his greedy nemesis, Cornelius Trindles, who incites a war with the creatures in order to claim their land for himself. However, the Poctu have a secret protector powerful enough to ensure the extinction of humankind if need be. As Kolber tries to maintain peace and convince Trindles to cease his war with the Poctu, their guardian has other plans.
