The main character, who has been deeply entrenched in her religious beliefs for the past few years, experiences a strange dream that will set the course for the rest of her story. She struggles to understand its meaning and purpose. In 2007, she and her husband inherit a successful family business from his father, which was founded by their pastor godfather in the 1970s. Despite the challenges of a struggling economy, their business thrives and they have been blessed with two children.

As old friends and secrets are revealed, feelings are hurt and apologies are necessary. The couple attends a journey only to be engulfed in chaos. Meanwhile, the main character's older sibling is accused of a heinous crime causing further turmoil for the family.

To give back to their community, the husband starts a youth ministry, which helps young people learn effective communication skills. As the story comes to an end, the main character muses about feeling like there is a message trying to reach her and wonders if it is all just in her mind or something more powerful at play.
