Mary, a black woman and highly acclaimed romance novelist with a bad case of writer's block, knows all about love until her high-school sweetheart files for divorce. Still grieving the recent loss of her mother and grandmother, she's having a hard time processing the divorce at the height of her career and ripe age of 30. She decides to visit her favorite diner for inspiration, a place that her mother and grandmother took her as a child. Upon arrival, she encounters a gorgeous and ethereal dark-skinned man who's seated alone. They talk for hours about the racial politics and injustices occurring against the black diaspora across the world. He tells her about the dormant power that exists within them and how it's being forcefully repressed by the powers that be.

Mary is completely enthralled by the conversation when he asks her to take a risk and trust him. They spend the remainder of the evening together and during her time with him, she experiences unexplainable phenomena and they become the target of a high-speed police chase. Instantly, the car they're in begins to travel at the speed of light through a portal to a paradise created by the descendants of the fallen Black Gods. This foreign land is a place where black men and women are treated like pure royalty and the mysterious man shows Mary the key's to unlocking her true purpose.
