Paul D Billingsley
This is an inspirational book of cheers for people who have been diagnosed with and are in the fight against Parkinson's Disease. Born out of the personal experience of the author, each cheer has its genesis in the struggle against this relentless adversary. Boxing is part of his strong commitment to exercise to keep Parkinson's at bay. He is a fighter and member of Rock Steady Boxing. Cheers are an important part of boxing classes and bring fighters together for moments of affirmation and hope. They give rise to a winning sensation in which struggle is forgotten and success is remembered. The book is an excellent resource for coaches who lead Rock Steady Boxing classes. As fitness directives are planned for each class, a concluding cheer can be included to help fighters end the class well. Coaches understand that because of a progression of Parkinson's, one may experience a loss of vocal strength. Exercises are included in each class to help one maintain or build voice strength. A cheer at the end of a class allows fighters to join together with strong voice to end the class on a high note. With over 100 cheers included, coaches can chose cheers that best relate to the plan for each class. A cheer may also be read or spoken aloud when one is alone. The genesis behind each cheer is fighting back against Parkinson's. One's own experience opens the heart to connect with a cheer bringing inspiration and hope. Cheers help one fight Parkinson's with voice and spirit.
