This study provides a brief history of the emergence and development of shared mobility services, which contribute to a more efficient use of available resources and to achieve a number of Sustainable Development Goals. It reviews experiences from various countries and identifies the good practices and lessons learned from carsharing and carpooling initiatives in order to provide to Central Asian countries a best practice guide on how to set up and regulate such schemes.
