In the outskirts of Toledo, the beautiful Ines de Vargas makes Diego Martinez promise that he’ll marry her once he returns from Flanders. Three years pass and Diego still has not returned, although other men from Flanders have. Amongst them, Ines believes she spotted her Diego but learns that he has been deemed Capitan by the King while he was away. The fumes have gone to his head and promises he will never marry.
