For this edition of Matador’s Artist’s Portfolio series, Spanish painter Miquel Barcelo (born 1957) presents four series made between 2009-2010. In these series Barcelo paints without paint, instead using bleach and soot, which he applies to black paper and canvases. The bleach develops the image by removing its background.
