An overview of the artist’s most recent work where he uses models of figures and shapes made of modelling clay, which then translates into greatly enlarged and exaggerated paintings. His paintings may seem childlike and naive, but the artist goal is to avoid faithful accuracy in favour of a universal expression. Perez is more interested in the fundamental constellations of human existence and interaction than in any popular ubiquitous and increasingly hollow social criticism.
Michel Perez Pollo (Manzanillo, Cuba, 1981), graduated from the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) in Havana in 2007. His most recent solo shows are Jugando a comprender, Galerie Knorle and Battig, Winterthur, Switzerland (2011) and La bondad del deconocido (The kindness of the stranger), Servando Gallery, Havana (2011). Lives and works in Havana.
