The Alhambra Lions
The Alhambra Lions
Preserving the decorative richness and symbolism of a rare example of Hispano-Muslim sculpture
The Courtyard of the Lions in the Alhambra, built by order of Muhammad V between 1362 and 1391, is the culmination of Nasrid architecture. Adrian Tyler's black-and-white photographs depict the lions before and after their 2020 restoration, providing a cache of archaeological images reminiscent of 19th century photography.
