Burnout is characterized as a consequence of chronic stress related to occupational activity. This work refers to a study aimed at understanding Burnout Syndrome, through access to existing Brazilian literature on the subject and the experience of workers who have been affected by this syndrome. This study was carried out through qualitative research, using the empirical phenomenological method to conduct three (03) interviews with people who had left their jobs due to chronic exhaustion of the physical and psychological resources necessary for professional performance. We came to understand that the participants in the research were affected, in their own peculiar way, by a long process of physical and psychological exhaustion related to their professional activities, which characterizes Burnout Syndrome, resulting from the poor interaction between personal, social, occupational and organizational factors.
