Covid-19 Pandemic Risk Communication by Nigerian Newspapers

Bartholomew Terfa Dansoho

This study, COVID-19 Pandemic Risk Communication by Nigerian Newspapers, analysed the COVID-19 pandemic RC in newspapers. The study, based on the Extended Parallel Processing Model (EPPM), used content analysis to examine a total of 244 editions of four newspapers: the Daily Sun, Daily Trust, The Guardian, and The Nation, published in two months (March 1-April 30, 2020). It is revealed from the study that the component of efficacy was not of much importance to the newspapers, with 'the outcomes of preventive actions' making up an insignificant proportion. The study concluded that the component of efficacy was rated low, specifically 'the outcomes of the preventive actions.' The media might focus more on 'the outcomes of the preventive actions' while reporting on the COVID-19 pandemic.
