Men’s access to public health policies

Erika Doreto Blaques Da Silva

This is about men's contemporary lifestyle, in which they are increasingly concerned about their health, despite socio-economic and cultural barriers that make it difficult for them to seek this type of care due to the incompatibility between the opening hours of health centres and their working hours. Its objectives were to study men's health in terms of the risks of becoming ill, the diseases that most affect them and their respective prevention, the national men's health policy and multiprofessional qualification in terms of prevention, promotion and rehabilitation. Faced with this context, nurses, along with other professionals, need to devise strategies to attract and include the male population in this new health paradigm. It is extremely important to recognise a different kind of care for the male population, articulating with the various health programmes and also seeking partnerships with institutions that work with this population in order to achieve interdisciplinary care for men's health, with a view to promoting health and encouraging self-care.
