In order to help overcome the geographical and conceptual limits of studies on the subject, this study aims to identify and publicise the results of research into ecclesiastical sources on the baptism of Africans in the first parish of Feira de Santana, Sao Jose das.itapororocas, in the period 1785-1826. Baptism was considered a rule in Brazilian society in the construction of extended and enlarged families, in other words, the bonds made it possible to increase this already existing family. The meanings of baptism for the written were varied, depending on the relationships established in the prevailing society.
