Since 2014, a tragic year marked by the Kurds' entry into the war against the Islamic State (EI or Daesh) in Iraq and Syria, Westerners have been curious to discover the culture and romantic, poetic and free nature of the Kurds, but also the privileged place they give to women in society. The French President said he was moved by the "solidarity" and "friendship between the Kurdish people and the French people". Fine words, but deep down the Kurds believe that their only friends are the mountains. They have always been their refuge during centuries of persecution, massacres and deportations. A retreat that has enabled them to preserve their oral literature, their folklore, their culture and above all the Kurdish language, and poetry a unique means of expressing their suffering. The aim of this book is to present the basis of Kurdish literature, which is the foundation of the cultural identity of this people. It gives the European reader a better understanding of Kurdish literary heritage, a heritage that is profoundly alive and rich.
