Integrated weed management for fruit trees

Saba Dewanou, Ishmael Akossibe Batcho, Romael Badjrehou Badou

The cashew tree (Anacardium occidentale L.) is a species of tree in the Anacardiaceae family, cultivated in the tropics for its production of cashew nuts, which are kidney-shaped drupes that break, and cashew apples. The cocoa tree (Theobroma cacao) is native to South America. It was introduced to West Africa in the 1800s. Bananas are one of the world's most widely consumed fruits, with an annual production of over 140 million tonnes. In tropical zones, weeds are a major obstacle to crop development and productivity. They control yields, cross-seasonal management and, sometimes, crop prices. The negative impact of weeds on crops can account for up to 13% of lost agricultural production worldwide.
