Wood energy and its consequences
Charles Benam
Wood energy remains a major concern in the Dodje/Tchad forest massif, where its use for cooking and brewing local beers is recurrent. The aim of this research is to assess the area of woody plant cover exploited as fuelwood and to propose strategies for sustainable management. To carry out the study, books, dissertations and articles were consulted in various libraries and institutions. A sample of 164 was surveyed. Floristic inventories were carried out on 18 plots, each 900 m (2) in size and 1 km apart, crossing several landscape units. Plot density, rarefaction index and LandSat image processing (1980, 2000 and 2020) were carried out. This analysis shows that the majority of households in the Dodje forest massif use nothing but firewood. Out of 1,753 individuals, 52 woody species and 23 families were inventoried. The Dodje forest massif has a regressive trend.
