Les Dominicains adheraient aux doctrines de Saint Thomas d'Aquin, ainsi Joannes Dominici a compose un Abbreviato ou compendium de la Summa Theologica et Benoit d'Assignano a ecrit une Concordantia dans laquelle il a essaye de montrer que la Summa Theologica s'harmonisait avec le meme commentaire de Saint Thomas d'Aquin aux Sentences.Le mouvement nominaliste a eu une importance qui ne peut etre exprimee en reference a une controverse particuliere.L'esprit nominaliste etait enclin a l'analyse plutot qu'a la synthese, et a la critique plutot qu'a la speculation.
