El cancer de mama es una enfermedades que se conoce desde epocas antiguas (Egipto, en el papiro Ebers del 1600 a.C aproximadamente). En Cuba ocupa el primer eslabon dentro de las causas de incidencia y mortalidad neoplasicas del sexo femenino. Una de cada 14 a 16 mujeres podra presentar cancer de mama en algun momento de su vida. Se realizo un estudio longitudinal, prospectivo y descriptivo de 76 pacientes (universo/muestra) con el objetivo de caracterizar la biopsia con aguja de corte como estudio pre tratamiento quirurgico de cancer de mama en el Hospital Clinico Quirurgico Joaquin Albarran .
