St. Athanasius the Great was born about 297 in Alexandria, the virtuous Christian family. Since childhood, loving the temple of God, and he in games with peers copied church services. Throughout his life, the saint had to keep fighting started in his youth. Arianism almost disappeared, then re-circulated. There was a time when St. Athanasius remained the only Orthodox bishop, yet others shied away from grace. More than twenty years of St Athanasius endured persecution and persecution of heretics. Repeatedly his exiled they tried to kill him… But again and again calls upon the faithful to his chair, he continued relentlessly to defend the purity of Orthodoxy. Saint Athanasius left a great spiritual heritage: numerous comments to the Scriptures, the ascetic teachings, words and conversations, letters, apologetic and dogmatic works, which defended the purity of the Orthodox Faith.
