The book of the series Materials for the history of the city , conceived and published on the initiative and with the direct participation of the famous Moscow businessman and public figure NA Naidenov and Archivist I. Nikolev. The basic idea of
publishing project was the desire to collect Naidenov and print archival materials on the history of the Russian cities that played a particularly prominent role in the development of domestic entrepreneurship. Having received the friendly support and good advice of the famous historian IE Zabelin, Naydenov managed to attract to the project many famous and wealthy Moscow merchants, who took over the costs of preparing and printing of the book devoted to the city, from which they were born. In total, the project involved a dozen representatives of the Moscow merchant dynasties. Modern scientific community highly appreciated the initiative of NA Naidenov, and in 1883 he was elected an honorary member of the Archaeological Institute. The main work on the search of documents and prepare them for printing was done Nikolev Innocent Nikolayevich (1829-1888), an archivist who for many years served in the Moscow archives of the Ministry of Justice for many years worked with Naydenov. He and his assistants had done enormous work to collect information from the sentinel, the accountant and census books, inventories cities registered males tales and many other documents cover the period from the XVI to XIX century.
