The first major set of encyclopedic knowledge of Judaism in Russian. Encyclopedia was published in the 1908-1913 biennium. in sixteen volumes in St. Petersburg Society for Jewish scientific publications and publishing house Brockhaus Efron. The basis and served as a model for her published several years earlier twelve-The Jewish Encyclopedia (London; New York, 1901-1906). However, its material has been substantially amended and extended by the authors Jewish Encyclopedia Britannica in everything relating to the history, culture and present situation of the Jewish communities in Eastern Europe. The work on the Jewish Encyclopedia Britannica was attended by prominent representatives of the Russian Jewish Studies, Oriental and Hebraic A. Garkavi, D. Gunzburg, Yu Hesse, S. Dubnov, J. Marcon H.
