Power Revolution in the Industrialization of Japan: 1885-1940
Ryoshin Minami
Industrialization or the growth of manufacturing industries proceeded in Japan before World War II at a higher rate than in countries which had developed earlier. This growth was closely associated with a revolution in power: the expansion of power supplies, the mechanization of non-powered factories, and the transition from water wheels to steam engines and from steam engines to electric motors. This study explores the power revolution and its significance, and the connection between power and industrialization.
