Sport, Popular Culture and Identity

This volume is concerned with the relationship between sport and collective identities in popular culture in contemporary societies. It contains a range of studies of the sociology and politics of this relationship particularly in France and Britain, but also in Europe more broadly, in Australia and in South Africa. Topics covered include: media sport and social identity; sport policy and urban identity; and sport and the politics of identity. The Chelsea School Research Centre Edition series originated in the advanced scholarship and research undertaken in CSRC as it consolidated and developed its national and international research networks. It brings together state-of-the-art scholarship and research in the sociology of sport, the sport sciences, leisure studies and physical education. Each volume comprises multidisciplinary approaches to a common theme, or themed collections based upon single disciplines. Specialist scholars from the CSRC or prominent authors from other universities and Research Centres contribute to these editions.
