Andrea Fogli’s drawings offer an insight into an inner world, in which interior and exterior, dream and reality, closeness and distance are in a state of flux. In Fogli’s artistic strategy, the drawing has always been of special significance, but it is only recently that it has come to attain a central role in his work. These diary drawings are reminiscent of surrealist automatic drawings, as the artist never knows in advance what image will emerge, what picture will develop. Fogli dates his drawings and sometimes gives them long titles, thereby connecting them to specific experiences, desires, dreams or nightmares, or just everyday events.
