Das letzte Judentum der Stadt Dinkelsbuhl hatte uber 200 Jahre Bestand. In einem Funftel der Altstadthauser lebten einmal Juden. Ihr Aufstieg begann im Koenigreich Bayern mit der Emanzipation der Wohnjuden zum Burger. In der Weimarer Republik etablierten sie sich und nahmen am Kleinstadtleben teil. Doch nach der Machtergreifung der Nazis wurden sie ausgegrenzt, ihre Existenz war bedroht. Aufgrund der reichsstadtischen Tradition wurde Dinkelsbuhl keine Nazi-Hochburg, aber nach den gewalttatigen SA-Rollkommandos am 9. und 10. November 1938 verliessen alle judischen Burger ihre Heimatstadt.
