Alexander Trifonowitsch Tvardovskij (1910 - 1971) zahlt in seiner Heimat Russland zu den beruhmtesten Dichtern. Seine Poeme (Gedichterzahlungen) gehoeren dort zum Kanon der Literatur, und auch als Lyriker nimmt er einen wichtigen Platz ein. Viele seiner Werke sind geradezu volkstumlich geworden. Nicht weniger bedeutsam als seine schriftstellerische Arbeit war sein Wirken als Chefredakteur der renommierten Literatur- und Kultur-Zeitschrift Novij mir (Neue Welt), die sich als einziges Presseorgan in den 1950er und -60er Jahren der offiziellen ideologischen Linie entgegenstellte.
