Die Erste Idylle erzahlt vom Fest im Walde, einem Picknick zum 18. Geburtstag der Pfarrerstochter Luise, die Walter liebt, den Kandidaten der Theologie und Hofmeiser ihres Vaters, des Pfarrers. Die Zweiter Idylle erzahlt von Walters Besuch, mittlerweile ist er selbst Pfarrer und mit Luise verlobt. Von den Vorbereitungen zur Vermahlung und Feier der Hochzeit erzahlt die dritte Idylle.
