In der Herzog August Bibliothek Wolfenbuttel sind 350.000 Bucher aus der Zeit vor 1830 uberliefert. Die Sammlung von Portratstichen umfasst ca. 25.000 Blatter. In der Reihe A des Katalogs erschienen zunachst 28 Bildbande. Die neun Textbande liefern Angaben zu den abgebildeten Personen, Bildbeschreibungen sowie Angaben zum Kunstler und zur angewendeten Technik. Das Supplement erganzt in sechs Banden 3.000 nach Erscheinungsbeginn des Katalogs neu erworbene Portrats sowie uber 600 weitere Portrats. Das Werk wird in sieben Registerbanden mit 15 Einzelregistern erschlossen.
