Friedrich Hell (1869-1957): Monographie mit Oeuvrekatalog
Almut Krapf-Weiler
The importance of the work of the Tyrolean painter Friedrich Hell is revealed through knowledge of his technique, the painting process and his feeling for nature. They have their roots in the second half of the 19th century and the turn of the century. Hell’s painting process extends over the years in slow motion and finally allows him to paint his central concern, the rock-human theme. In doing so, he breaks away from traditional alpine painting and, by freeing himself from ideas and tendencies outside of painting, achieves a coherence and validity in his later works, in which the expression appropriate to himself and the landscape is reflected.
