Alain Badiou is a professor in philosophy at the Ecole Normale Superieure, the College International de Philosophie, both in Paris, and at the European Graduate School, in Saas-Fee, Switzerland. In addition to being a political militant, a contributing member of Cahiers pour l'Analyse, and one of the founders of L'Organisation Politique, he is the author of a number of plays and novels, and three seminal philosophical works: Being and Event, Logics of Worlds and Theory of the Subject. In addition to two manifestos for philosophy, he is also the author of numerous other philosophical works, including: Conditions, Ethics, Metapolitics, Handbook of Inaesthetics, The Meaning of Sarkozy, The Rebirth of History, Mathematics of the Transcendental, Number and Numbers, Plato’s Republic, and The Communist Hypothesis. He is one of the major philosophers of our century.
