A history of Gullah Cuisine Restaurant and Gullah culture, featuring recipes by renowned Chef Charlotte Jenkins. Gullah Chef Charlotte Jenkins’ debut cookbook, Gullah Cuisine: By Land and By Sea, bridges the past and the present. Photojournalist Mic Smith captures present-day images of Gullah life in coastal South Carolina a visit to the farmer’s market, a baptism, a wedding and the home where Charlotte grew up. Those images are juxtaposed to earlier photographs that tell the story of Gullah life. Mingled among it all are the colorful paintings of Jonathan Green, whose extraordinary artwork tells his story of growing up Gullah down the road from Charlotte in Beaufort County.
