Disguised as the German soldier Hans Adler, with aims to escape persecution, Johan must fight, and even kill, if he wants to keep his secret unknown.

Clinging to the hope of reuniting with his mother and sister, the last surviving members of his family, the bonds of comradeship keep him alive through the ordeals and madness of battle.

From the outskirts of Moscow to the heart of Stalingrad, Johan must come to terms with the reality of death and hold off his fears of becoming someone he is not. He must keep his secret and stay alive long enough to be back with his family.
