This collection of poems includes a celebration of the great sandstone Cistercian abbey of Furness in South Cumbria and continues with poems that bring to life the stony wild places that we all love. It draws mainly on the poet’s experience of the Lake District but includes verses set in Snowdonia and Spain. They paint emotive pictures of the mountains and countryside and are written in traditional rhyming and often alliterative verse which makes them easily appreciated and enjoyed.
Martin was born in Liverpool but has spent forty years living in South Cumbria with easy access to the quiet parts of the Lakes where he has been able to indulge his love of hill-walking, rock-climbing, cycling and kayaking. He has worked as a language teacher in Cumbria and the Highlands and as a mountain guide in Britain, Spain, France and Morocco.
Martin’s poems have been performed at venues including Keswick’s Theatre by the Lake and included in anthologies of current poetry.
