The author of Mountains on the Moon, the late Michael Arthern, spent the first half of his working life as a biology and science teacher. He then became, until his retirement, Head of an Environmental Education Centre where he was mor able to indulge his love of field work. He says: For as long as I can remember, I have been enthralled by this wonderful environment of land, sea, and sky in which we find ourselves, with its extraordinary variety of animals and plants, both beautiful and weird. It was my first sight of the intricate beauty of a section of plant stem under a microscope that drew me into sixth form biology, and then a botany degree course.

The Rev Professor David Wilkinson, Principal of St John’s College, Durham and professor in the Department of Theology and Religion at Durham University, said of this book: A brilliant synthesis of science and the Christian faith. Michael Arthern brings together scientific integrity and insight with deep spirituality. A book that will excite and challenge.

Michael Arthern takes the reader on a journey through time, giving us fascinating close-ups of scientists, whose names are of great significance but whose personal lives and thoughts are unknown territory. We discover that many of these scientifically dedicated men and women were also enthusiastic admirers of the Creator as well as Creation.
