A Jewish Jesus

A feature of the readings from ‘Jesus the Troublemaker’ is that they embed the story firmly in the Jewish culture of the time. So all names are in Aramaic, including the word for God (Aalah). Some of the prayers are in Hebrew. The worship in the Temple is described and the Passover meal as well.

The Last Eight Days

We walk with Jesus 18 miles uphill from Jericho to Jerusalem. We get a front-row seat at the Last Supper and experience the cliff-hanging twists and turns of the various trials of Jesus on Good Friday. A letter from a woman follower, Salome, makes surprising sense of what really happened on Easter Day. The last three weeks of Lent are concerned with the Last Supper, the trials of Jesus and finally the crucifixion.

Maps and Drawings

A map of Jerusalem in Jesus’ day, plus specially commissioned drawings, enable the reader to grasp the physical environment of the events.

Group Study

For those who want to use it as a basis for a Lent study group, two discussion questions per week are suggested after the Introduction.

Daily Helps

Comments discuss the biblical evidence for each incident. Personal reflections relate the story to our everyday life. A suggestion is provided for us to do something in response, whether to pray or to do something.
