This poetry collection, celebrating the 250th anniversary of the birth of the poet Sir Walter Scott, is a unique international collaboration, created by the Eurasian Creative Guild. It’s an almanac of poems from many countries taking you through the year, showcasing both favourite classics and new work from living poets.
Poets from all over Eurasia were invited to submit their own work, and readers could submit their own choice of classic poets. Each poem is a gift, from one country to another, one friend to another, a joint mixtape of poetry.
In honour of the Scott anniversary, the Almanac features 18 of Scott’s greatest poems, each one both in the original Scottish English, and translated into a different Eurasian language.
The result is a very special collection that underlines the power of poetry to build bonds of friendship between people and nations.
Poetry is so deeply embedded in the human soul that it seems to be part of every culture, and it communicates at a deep level beyond nations, beyond ethnicity and has the power to make us laugh, to make us cry, to feel outrage, to feel love - to feel our deep human connection. It brings us together in a very special way.
