The book provides an overview of the initial design and development of the first tanks. It provides details of the selection and training of crewmen and the tactical and logistic challenges associated with bringing a new weapon system into combat in less than nine months after acceptance of the prototype. AUTHOR: Retired British Army officer, military historian and author, Stephen Pope is acknowledged as the world expert on the Battle of Flers Courcelette in which tanks were used for the first time during the Battle of the Somme in September 1916. He led the centenary celebrations of the battle in France as well as leading many smaller battlefield tours to the area. He is the lead researcher into tank crew actions at the Battle of Flers-Courcelette during September 1916 as well as author of The First Tank Crews published Helion and Co in April 2016.
