DCI Caton and his team are back. As the Covid-19 pandemic accelerates Manchester, together with the rest of the country, goes into lockdown. No one is surprised that older adults fall disproportionately victim to the virus, but does this mean that murders may go undetected?

When older women begin to die in mysterious circumstances, Caton suspects that someone is taking advantage of the epidemic to carry out their evil intent. He and his team have never before had to carry out an investigation under such difficult circumstances. Social distancing, and working in a bubble, is difficult enough, but having to read the expression of witnesses and potential suspects behind face masks is almost impossible.

With the help of Kate’s skills as a profiler the Syndicate begin to close on the killer. But the killer is making this personal, and closing in on Caton, and his family. And the killer has nothing to lose!
