Uncle Jim

All the world loves a rascal. Jim is a Jack the lad, out of the army with a gammy leg, working at a supply depot and one of the few young men available to the female workforce during the 1940s. Usefully, his brother-in-law Albert is a policeman at the depot. Their cheeky antics, the ducking and diving, really capture the mood of the times; the village life and pub, the women doing the men’s work and a bit of illicit pig rearing. Against the backdrop of war, bombs and rationing, the people of Uncle Jim show us the human spirit, the daily challenge of keeping wives happy and food on the table, plus the importance of finding a smile in times of adversity.
