Faithful to Our Trust
W. J. R. Wallace
Faithful to Our Trust is a history of the Erasmus Smith educational charity, founded in the seventeenth century by a London merchant who acquired a large estate during the Cromwellian plantation. The Trust ran grammar schools at Drogheda, Galway, Tipperary and Ennis and over 200 primary schools, as well as giving money to Trinity College and the Blue Coat School. Today only The High School, Dublin, founded in 1870, remains. The book includes a detailed history of the first hundred years of the school and features a section on W. B. Yeats as a schoolboy. In this fascinating book, W. J. R. Wallace sheds light on the experiences of the Protestant community in Ireland over a period of 300 years.
