Ressurreicao is a novel written by the Brazilian writer Machado de Assis. It was is first novel and was published in 1872. The author explained that his inspiration for the book came from the following quote from Sheakespeare: Our doubts are traitors, And make us lose the good we oft might win, By fearing to attempt. The story tells the ordeal of a Carioca doctor who abandons his girlfriend in an attempt to seduce a beautiful widow.
