The last call. Tense. Still. Too still. The line went dead after a clash of the cell phone hitting a hard object.
Of all the kidnapping cases Rusty Michaels had undertaken, few had ended well. Experience taught him that the more time that went by, the slimmer the chance of a rescue. This wasn’t one of his cases. But he worked at it non-stop anyway. He didn’t have a choice. When a loved one goes missing and you’re a detective you search. It’s just what you do. But the trail was cold and time was slipping away. He could feel hope waning at the station, and in his heart. How could he find Cassidy?
