Kristy’s Story

Kristy Alexander is six when her mother walks out the door of their trailer and never looks back. When sober, Kristy's father writes poems and teaches her about weather and words, but his decline into meth addiction leads to another kind of abandonment. Decades later, Kristy's marriage looks perfect from the outside, but she can't seem to disconnect from the first male who made her feel cherished after her father died. Faced with a chance to finally break free from all the lies and betrayal, Kristy sacrifices the most important pieces of herself, but ends up losing her best friend along with her husband. A mystical old woman intervenes when Kristy reaches her lowest ebb. But is it possible to change the past? Kristy's Story is a tale of the driving hunger of love, and the remarkable resilience which permits people to endure the unthinkable. Important themes play out about the emotional rivers running beneath the actions of others, the weird shapes love takes when formed in an atmosphere of abuse, and the issues of consent, complicity, and victimhood.
A book for fans of Kate Elizabeth Russell's My Dark Vanessa, and physics-bending tales like Aimee Bender's The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake and Octavia E. Butler's Kindred. It's a story you won't soon forget.
