Alex wakes up in the hospital after receiving a mysterious package, realizing that being an investigative journalist has never been more dangerous. His deteriorating health is a testament to this peril. Ever since his source vanished without a trace, the threats have intensified. Taking down major political players comes with significant risks, but Alex wonders if he could have done more to protect his source.

The arrival of the mysterious package complicates matters further, with its cryptic content alluding not only to his current dealings but also to his past. Why? Is there something hidden in his family's history, or is something far more sinister at play?

Following these enigmatic clues will lead Alex into the heart of Africa, leaving behind his fiancee, Gale. She has only recently made contact with her kidnapped daughter after so many years. The child was whisked off to another country by her father, the same man who threatened Gale's life should she ever come searching for her. This makes Alex question the nature of the call even more.
