the narrator’s parents members are unforgettable in their unique personalities, their over-the-top hobbies, and their treatment of their children, along with the home in which they lived-stunningly beautiful on the outside but shabby within in many areas.
This memoir is targeted at a generation of adult women who grew up in the 1960s and 1970s under a patriarchal system, women who were not encouraged to develop their own voice and talents. Women in the author’s demographic also had to deal with wives of these patriarchs, their mothers, who often had been coopted into this system.
