It is easy get so wrapped up in our own current affairs that we forget that there were other times that were also filled with catastrophe, horror, pleasure and mirth. The Sun Also Rises tracks the aftermath of the lives of men and women recently emerged from that calamity which we call World War I. We can be quick to dismiss their angst, knowing that WWII was already on its way, followed by numerous smaller wars, and of course, a fair number of genocides. The Sun Also Rises reminds us that our angst is their angst, allowing us to see into the pain of our ancestors. Yet, just as there is suffering, there is hope. Life does go on. The Sun Also Rises.
